WILLEMSTAD- December 21, 2017 – The Curaçao Tourist Board in collaboration with the Curaçao Airport Partners, JetBlue Vacations and private sector partners: Acoya Hotel Suites & Villas, Blue Bay Curaçao Golf & Beach Resort, Floris Suite Hotel Curaçao, Hilton Curaçao, Papagayo Curaçao, Renaissance Curaçao Resort & Casino, Santa Barbara Beach & Golf Resort and Sunscape Curaçao Resort Spa & Casino just completed a five-day activation in New York City that engaged locals across various key neighborhoods during a very frosty and cold week in December. Curaçao interrupted New Yorker’s commutes, errands, and lunch-breaks with a heated beach oasis, all packed into a mobile glass truck.
Bystanders were asked to take a momentary break from reality, escape the freezing temperatures and visit the pop-up beach complete with a hammock and scenic views from the island. They were also encouraged to post their images to social media for another chance to win a real getaway to the island using the hashtag #CuracaoTakeMeAway which generated over 200,000+ impressions and over 230 social media public posts.
Over the course of last week, this Mobile Pop-up Beach generated 20,000+ foot traffic impressions, across neighborhoods such as Union Square Park, Times Square, Bryant Park, Herald Square, Flatiron District, Soho and the Financial District just to name a few. To help build buzz around our activation, Curaçao also pitched various media partners for the chance to have the truck stop by their offices for their own “Take Me Away” moment.
