The Curaçao Tourist Board (CTB) is reporting a 17% growth in stayover visitor arrivals for December 2018. Precisely, in total 6,912 more visitors were registered in December 2018, bringing the total count to 47,058 visitors against 40,146 in December 2017.
December 2018 is a record setting month with several firsts:
- Almost 18,000 stayover visitors from The Netherlands
- Over 10,000 stayover visitors from North America
- Almost 4,000 stayover visitors from Colombia
Curaçao welcomed a record-breaking number of stayover visitors from our main producing country The Netherlands. There were 17,994 visitors in December 2018, which was a 14% increase over December 2017. The introduction of Condor flights from Frankfurt, Germany which began on November 7th has resulted in positive growth from Germany. 1,661 German visitors were welcomed in December 2018, which was a 63% increase over December 2017.
The continuous support of CTB and partners to brand Curaçao in the USA is reaping rewards for the island. For December 2018 there was a 26% increase in stayover visitors from USA over December 2017. There was also a 39% in stayover arrivals increase from Canada. As a result of this very strong performance from the USA and Canada, Curaçao welcomed 11,140 arrivals from North America in December 2018 at 29% increase over December 2017.
In total stayover visitors from South America performed well recording double digit growth. The region grew by 18%. In absolute numbers 9,876 stayover visitors were welcomed in December 2018 from South America. Colombia was the best performing market out of South America and we registered an increase of 38% to a total of 3,938 stayover visitors. From the Caribbean there was a 5% increase in stayover arrivals. Curaçao welcomed 2,617 stayover visitors from our neighboring islands in December 2018.
