CHATA Ready for Curaçao Culinary Team 2019
with new coaching team consisting of Hans van Triest, Helmi Smeulders, & Luigi Chavarria
Willemstad, July 31 st 2018– On July 31st, CHATA presented its plans for the Curaçao Culinary Team 2019 at CHATA Member Licores Maduro. CHATA revealed the Culinary team’s new coach line-up of renowned local and international chefs. As well as registration dates for our local talent to participate in the Curaçao Culinary Team Competitions 2019. Furthermore, CHATA thanked the many sponsors of the Curaçao Culinary Team 2018 for their continuous support.
Every year a team of local Chefs and Bartender represent Curaçao at the Taste of the Caribbean
Competitions in Miami. The chefs and bartender are selected through a local competition which is
hosted by CHATA. Once the members of the Curaçao Culinary Team are selected the team is trained
for a period of 1 year by culinary professionals.
During yesterday’s event, CHATA announced that it is currently looking for young talented chefs to form part of the new Curaçao Culinary Team 2019. The team consists of Chefs, Pastry Chefs and a Bartender. CHATA encourages all that have an interest to join the Curaçao Culinary Team 2019 and
are currently working for a CHATA Member property to attend the information session taking place on
August 25th 2018. During this day, it will also be possible to sign-up for the Curaçao Culinary Team
2019 competitions. The Cooking and Bartender Competitions will take place in September and
October 2018.
CHATA is also excited to announce that the coaching team of the Culinary Team 2019 will consist of
renowned chefs Hans van Triest (Winner Caribbean Chef of the Year 2006), Helmi Smeulders
(Thelma & Louise) and Luigi Chavarria (La Vie en Rose).
Furthermore, CHATA took the opportunity to thank and celebrate all the sponsors of the Curaçao
Culinary Team 2018 who made the many trainings and actual competition of the team in Miami back in
June possible. Through their support these sponsors have made a direct contribution to the

CHATA finds competitions such as the Taste of the Caribbean very important, as we not only manage
to put Curaçao on the map but also give youngsters a chance to prove themselves and grow in the
industry. The Curaçao Tourist Board also took the opportunity to recognize the effort of the Culinary
Team 2018 by awarding them with the ‘Kòrsou ta Dushi’ Award.
