In 1998 the owner started a small restaurant on the spot where his family used to gather to plant small crops and cook meals, underneath a big tree. Being the nephew of the family he called the restaurant Rancho El Sobrino, El Sobrino being the Spanish word for nephew.
El Sobrino is situated next to Playa Forti and within 100 meter you will reach the Caribbean Sea. Playa Forti is a public beach, freely accessible to anyone. To reach the beach you descend a set of chairs leading from the road all the way down to the beach. Playa Forti is located 40 km from the airport and the capital Willemstad is a 40 minutes drive.
Rancho El Sobrino has become a full-fledged accommodation with 14 double room apartments and 1 two-bedroom apartment for four persons. There is a swimming pool, a dive center and the restaurant that outgrew the ‘cook out under the tree’ as it used to be. The restaurant now has two floors underneath a big Palapa roof with a nice bar and a large kitchen. Next to their own apartments Rancho El Sobrino also manages the Blue View Apartments situated on the other side of the Playa Forti Bay.
Their most memorable review was not necessarily what you call a review, but arrived in a very special way. They received a postcard from Vietnam from previous guests saying: “We’re on holiday in this beautiful country, but wanted to let you know we do miss Rancho El Sobrino”.
