April 20, 2017 (New York and San Francisco) – AFAR Media announced its first Facebook Live series created with exclusive launch partner, Curacao Tourist Board, as a means to connect with consumers via social media. As consumers increasingly consult their social communities for travel ideas and inspiration, the broadcast goes well beyond the traditional model of a travel magazine, allowing travelers to experience and interact with a destination in real time.
Hosted by notable local Chanelle De Lau, Miss Curaçao 2016, the live broadcast took place at three different times and Curaçao locations throughout the day on AFAR’s Facebook Page. Viewers virtually learned about Curaçao‘s history, interacted with locals, and experienced popular attractions. All comments and questions received during the broadcast qualified users for a trip to the destination.

AFAR embraces innovation and authenticity and Facebook Live is the perfect platform to bring destinations like Curaçao to life for our audience,” Ellen Asmodeo-Giglio, Chief Revenue Officer, AFAR Media.
AFAR’s partnership with Curaçao Tourist Board came together when the tourism bureau asked the media company to co-create a unique campaign that would go deeper than any other marketing they have done with a publication.

Our goal is to highlight what’s going on ‘Right Now in Curaçao’ with authentic footage and insights that will ultimately encourage fans to take advantage of the island’s diverse experiences in the future.”
The first broadcast was launched on the AFAR Facebook Page at 12:00 pm ET on April 20, 2017, with additional segments that aired at 3:30 pm and 6:30 pm ET. The sweepstakes will be open until April 22, 2017 with winners revealed by April 26, 2017.
