CHATA is a non-profit association powered by its members representing 140 private sector organizations covering all branches of the Tourism & Hospitality industry. Its KVK number is 130938 (0).

As of December 2023, it has 21 hotel members, 11 apartment hotel members and 108 allied members and is financed primarily by membership dues.

CHATA provides its members with lobbying efforts, market intelligence, networking opportunities, data, and generic information regarding our tourism industry, and keeps members informed on the actions it undertakes on a regular basis in support of their business objectives.

The official language of CHATA is English.

It has its offices at 1 Kaya Junior Salas, Willemstad, Curaçao

Who are we?

CHATA recently announced it will evolve into CHATA 2.0 which means that:

  • CHATA will focus on providing value for money for its members,
  • It will prioritize lobbying on behalf of its members.
  • It will work closely with the CTB to ensure that the CTB’s marketing programs are in line with the needs of its members.
  • It will operate as a classic hotel and tourism association focusing on the provision of membership services, such as industry information, courses and network opportunities.
  • It will continue to attract new members from the sector to maintain its position as the true spokesperson of the tourism private sector.
  • It will operate as a lean and mean organization.

CHATA’s Stated Mission

To deliver a visible, leading, and effective (marketing) contribution towards a vibrant and sustainable Curaçao tourism/hospitality product.

CHATA is the proactive public policy advocate for creating a favorable business environment and the driving force for product development and marketing of the hospitality and tourism industry.

What will you do

You will be appointed by the Board and report to the Board.

You will have among others the following duties and responsibilities:

  • Ensures that the board of directors, executive committee, and officers are fully informed of association conditions and of all important factors influencing them.
  • Attends all meetings of the Board and General Assemblies.
  • Prepares the agenda for all meetings.
  • Executes all decisions of the Board,
  • Prepares the Minutes of all Board meetings.
  • Acts as spokesperson for the Association,
  • Develops specific administrative policies, procedures, and programs to implement the general policies of the Board,
  • Establishes a sound organizational structure for the headquarters office,
  • Plans and manages the general administration of the entire Association operation,
  • Manages the financial affairs soundly as per approved budgets and approved financial accounts, to ensure the association is financially sustainable.
  • Prepares the annual business plan and budget for the association for approval of the Board.
  • Develops new programs to generate income streams other than membership dues.
  • Liaises with the Curacao Tourist Board to ensure optimal destination marketing and airlift development programs and the successful implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding with the CTB.
  • Serves on the relevant committees as mandated by the Memorandum of Understanding.
  • Delivers relevant programs desired by membership, including the effective lobbying of Government.
  • Represents the Association in any and all local government matters affecting the hotel and tourism industry,
  • Can represent the Association or tourism industry as a Member of the Board of Directors of certain organizations, but representation cannot include private companies nor members of the Association and must be approved by the Board,
  • Directs and coordinates all approved staff programs, projects, and major activities,
  • Recruits, hires, trains all association personnel including responsibility for promotions, and terminations,
  • Provides the necessary liaison and staff support to committee chairmen to enable committees to properly perform their functions, ensures that committee decisions and recommendations are submitted to the Board for approval,
  • Represents CHATA within the Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association and Caribbean Society of Hotel Association Executives.
  • And any other duties as deemed appropriate by the Board.

Who are you?


Your Experience:

  • Extensive knowledge of the tourism sector, specifically of the tourism sector of Curacao.
  • Several years’ experience of management of a non-profit, non-governmental organization or similar organization.
  • Ability to lead and motivate a small team of employees.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-stress environment.
  • Ability to work with a Board of Directors who have strong personalities and extensive experience of the industry.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Critical-thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage a budget and maintain close control of operating costs.
  • Excellent membership service and interpersonal skills
  • At least a bachelor’s degree preferably in Business Management or similar.
  • Constructive and effective time management plus the ability to work independently and exercise discretion are necessary.
  • Must be a person of high ethical standards.
  • Impeccable manners, punctuality, reliability, attention to detail and empathy are critical success factors.

What do we offer?

Curaçao’s tourism industry is poised for further substantial growth and will soon become the country’s primary economic pillar. With this continued expansion comes many challenges, particularly in managing this growth to ensure maximum benefits accrue to the population of Curaçao, and CHATA will play a major leadership role in helping to achieve this.

The contract will be for two (2) years in the first instance with a clause allowing the dissolution of the contract on 90 days’ notice without cause on either side.

It is a full time position and will include an option to renew contingent upon satisfactory performance.
