CHATA meets ESF-10

Curaçao Crisis Team: Spearheading Preparedness and Response Efforts for Natural Disasters and Crises

The Caribbean region is no stranger to the devastating impacts of natural disasters. From hurricanes and tropical storms to earthquakes and tsunamis, these catastrophic events can cause immense damage to lives, infrastructure, and the economy. As climate change continues to exacerbate the frequency and intensity of natural disasters, the role of the crisis team becomes increasingly vital. In recognition of the critical need for coordinated and effective responses, the establishment of a dedicated task force, ESF-10, has emerged as a pivotal force in managing and preparing for natural disasters.

The ESF-10 team plays a crucial role in safeguarding Curaçao’s economy. By harnessing the expertise and experience of the private sector, the Crisis Team ensures Curaçao is adequately prepared to face the unpredictable forces of nature.

CHATA serves as a central hub for information within the hospitality industry. We hope to raise awareness by updating our current Hurricane Kit to include diverse natural disasters and crises that are relevant to the tourism sector. CHATA wants to foster partnerships with pertinent organizations and the government to leverage resources and share best practices. These partnerships will facilitate the exchange of knowledge and expertise, thereby enhancing the overall resilience of Curaçao.

We encourage our members to develop comprehensive disaster management plans, establish early warning systems, conduct regular drills and simulations, and be better equipped to mitigate risks, coordinate evacuations, and allocate resources efficiently when disaster strikes.
