CHATA supports the Parliamentary initiative to ban single use plastic and foam products.

CHATA recently expressed its full support for the parliamentary initiative to prohibit single use plastic and foam products by amending The National Ordinance Public Order (P.B. 2015, no. 31).

CHATA also noted that while the tourism sector is pleased to support the government in this initiative it must be acknowledged that the sustainable products required to replace the single use plastic and foam products currently used are much more expensive and consequently CHATA respectfully requested an exemption on all import and related taxes and charges of such sustainable products for an initial period of three to five years.

In expressing its support CHATA also suggested that sunscreens which contain the chemicals oxybenzone and octinoxate also be prohibited as this will allow the protection of our coral reefs and noted that Bonaire implemented such a ban in 2021.
